Ideal Eid Gift For Little Muslims 'In Allah's Green Garden' (BOOK)
A green, green children's book: 30 awesome poems of ecological beauty sung on CD by the Wharnsby is THE `Eid gift of the year. For m...
Gifting a small person with a book is the best feeling on `Eid day. I have a tradition of making goody bags for little Muslims and by now they all know that my presents are going to be nothing less than 'edu-taining'. They're fun, but so help me, they're gonna be educational.
This year I ordered Dawud Wharnsby's latest book A Picnic of Poems In Allah's Green Garden. It's for my sister who is a fan of the Wharnsby because he sings the praises of God and values that she does.
Read: Wharnsby shared how and why he wrote A Picnic of Poems with The Eco Muslim. Very cool.
Each page is magnificently illustrated by Shireen Adams. She has really captured the heart of Wharnsby because the book reads like an album of his recent life. The nursery rhymes are so visual it's like flipping through photos of a person of God and their family. Every image has some new detail that we keep finding and 'awwing' too, especially the bearded Wharnsby being kissed by his daughter, which reminds us all of our dad and late grandfather - may Allah have mercy on him.
Adams' has done wonders for the "green Islam" message of too by transforming the poems' words about growing plants, the mosque and farming, into real-life illustrations. There are no fairy-tales or dreamlands. Just Allah's green garden.
