Ok. Short grumpy story made even shorter. Slugs ate my entire crop of cauliflower. All of 30 plants neatly protected near the greenhouse wall were devoured, save two. Leaves were stripped down to the stems, along with a few neighbouring spinach plants.
Now I don't harbour any ill thoughts against God's slimier creatures but if the slugs are reading, my message to you is I'm seriously looking into organic pest-control methods. An organic pair of slug-squishing wellington boots is one.
And for a positive end, the two rescued cauliflower plants nestled deep under leaves were made pest-prood with non-toxic slug pellets. I checked on them daily until the white florets were robust, blossoming and ready to be cut down.
Taken into intensive care, said cauliflowers were made into vegetable pies and stews. I guess I'm as much a predator as the herbivorous pests... At least we all said bismillah (in God's name) before we ate.
I'm ok now. -exhale-
